Sedation Dentist—
The Solution To An Anxiety-Free Visit

Happy Couple

As dentists we understand some people may be frightened of visiting a dentist, nearly 30% of the American population, in fact. Even when there is severe pain or discomfort some people go out of their way to avoid dental care at all cost. There is great news! Modern dentistry has evolved greatly to offer safe, comfortable, and anxiety-free treatments to those who still fear receiving care for their teeth and gums.

Some call it anxiety-free dentistry, relaxation dentistry, moderate sedation, oral conscious sedation, but all describe what is known as sedation dentistry. This is a form of dentistry that relaxes your nerves and senses through sedation medication to provide patients with the care needed for their smile while you, the patient, remains comfortable. You stay conscious and awake but relaxed and with no anxiety. We walk you through the process step-by-step to ensure that all fears subside.

What To Expect From Your Anxiety-Free Visit

Step One: Making Your First Appointment

The most diffcult step is to call and schedule an appointment. Please understand that our friendly staff is ready to help make your visits pleasant to help reduce dental anxiety. Go ahead and call us at your earliest convenience: (503) 566-7000.

When you are ready, schedule a time that works best for you.

Step Two: Your First Visit

On the first visit we gather information regarding your health and talk about what you would like us to do for you. You will never be judged or embarrassed; we understand your concerns and are here to assist you in staying healthy.

It is very important to talk about us about your fear and concerns during the first visit before any care is performed. We will tell you about our dentist's training, credentials, and the procedures that will be used prior to your care.

Please provide us with an updated health history of medications you are currently on, including vitamins or supplements. Include factors like smoking and alcohol consumption that can alter the effectiveness of sedation medications.

Step Three: Preparing For Your Sedation Visit

We will prepare a prescription for a sedative to take the night before your first appointment to ensure a good night's rest and arise feeling relaxed.

Oral sedation is a popular treatment because it is administered without the use of needles. Sedation medications used by Dr. Steven Lind have the highest therapeutic index, meaning these medications are least likely to cause adverse reactions, so you can be assured your health is our priority.

You should not eat or drink six hours prior to your appointment unless otherwise directed by the doctor.

Step Four: Arriving For Treatment

Have a relative or friend bring you to the office. Supplementary medication will be given to you for a complete relaxation. An experience sedation team will be with you and assist you throughout your entire visit.

Step Five: Completing Your Visit

You will need a relative or friend to drive you from your visit. Take the rest of the day to rest.

Step Six: The Following Day

Most patients feel no discomfort or lasting effects from the dental visit. You should return to feeling normal and back into your daily routine.

While sedation medication cannot make fear completely dissolve, they can give you confidence and peace-of-mind to experience dental care and oral procedures in a whole new way. Call us so we can help you care for your smile today through sedation dentistry, (503) 566-7000.
